Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in a relevant Health Sciences field, and whose research will complement School strengths, which are in global health, child and youth health, work and health, epidemiology, aging/gerontology, health policy, and complex health evaluations.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a regular member of the School and will be subsequently nominated for a Tier II Canada Research Chair. Nominations for Canada Research Chairs (CRC) are subject to review by the CRC Secretariat and appointment as a CRC is conditional on their approval (see the CRC terms of reference). The University of Waterloo is committed to providing the candidate with the support required to successfully secure the CRC.

The successful candidate will have obtained their PhD or equivalent within ten years of their nomination to the CRC position and will be an outstanding emerging scholar with a demonstrated potential to achieve a significant international reputation in the next five to ten years. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental, or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program's Tier 2 justification process. Please consult the CRC website for full program information, including further details on eligibility criteria. The candidate is expected to propose an innovative program of high-quality research that will attract external funding and excellent graduate students. Evidence of an actively developing research program and successful record of Tri-Agency funding is required. Ability and desire to partner with School faculty in closely allied fields is a must. Duties include research, teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, service to the unit, and supervision of graduate students. The successful candidate will have a reduced teaching load during the term of the CRC.

The successful candidate will join an active, vibrant, and growing program. We currently have 36 faculty, and offer research-focused MSc and PhD degrees in Public Health and Health Systems; a BSc in Health Studies; a Bachelor of Public Health; professional Master's degrees in Public Health, Health Evaluation, and Health Informatics; and collaborative PhD programs in Aging, Health and Well-Being, and in Work and Health.
