The purpose of this program is to provide QPHRN members with a financial support for the organization and holding of in-person symposia or virtual events dealing with a topic related to population health research and the activities of its axes.

Introduction 

The Quebec Population Health Research Network (QPHRN) is pleased to announce its program of support for the holding of seminars and conferences in a form appropriate to the circumstances of the pandemic or post-pandemic. The purpose of this program is to provide QPHRN members with a financial support for the organization and holding of in-person symposia or virtual events dealing with a topic related to population health research and the activities of its axes (see here).

The Network is open to any proposal regarding the format of the event. Note that the terms "Virtual Event" can include events such as: web conference, webinar, posting of video clips, events, or filmed interviews. The target audience can also vary and include health professionals, researchers, students, the general public, etc.

The Network will support 4 events, up to 5000$ for each.

Please contact us if you wish to ensure that an item in your budget is part of the eligible expenses according to the rules of the FRQ and the networks. 

Eligibility 

  • The team must include at least one “regular researcher” member of the Network.
  • A student member can apply with the support of her/his director or supervisor, regular researcher member of the Network.
  • The event must address themes that are related to population health research and/or to the activities of the QPHRN axes.
  • The event must be held before March 7, 2025.
  • The Network offers funding that can be complementary to existing funding in partnership with other organizations, excluding the FRQ.
  • A student who is a member of the QPHRN may submit applications to various annual competitions within the Network. However, a Master's student cannot benefit from more than $5000 per year in financial support, and a doctoral student or a postdoctoral fellow cannot benefit from more than $10,000 per year in financial support.

Applications 

Applications must be submitted by email with the subject line "Event Competition" no later than March 18, 2024 - 5 pm. The application must be submitted as a single document (Microsoft Word or PDF) to the following email: genevieve.malboeuf@teluq.ca.

Applications will be a maximum of five pages (font Calibri size 12, spacing 1 ½). In addition, the principal applicant must attach a brief resume/CV (3 pages). Long resume will not be accepted.

It is the candidates’ responsibility to maintain proof of their submission email and communicate with Geneviève Malboeuf if they did not receive an acknowledgment of receipt within 7 days following their submission email.

Content of Applications

Page 1: 

  • The name, affiliation and contact details (address, email) of the principal applicant 
  • The name and affiliation of co-applicants 
  • The title of the event and details about its format, platform or location, anticipated dates of the event, etc.
  • The budget requested to the RRSPQ and the total budget 
  • A justification of the budget requested to the RRSPQ
  • A brief description of the other sources of funding

Pages 2-3: 

  • The objectives of the event 
  • The target audience 
  • The organization plan 
  • The dissemination plan (announces, invitations, online material, …)
  • A short description of how this event meets the strategic priorities of the Network (see sections Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria)
  • A description of future publication, report, online publishing on the QPHRN website or elsewhere, etc. (see sections Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria)

Page 4-5:

  • The preliminary program (if available) 
    and / or 
  • The list of speakers (anticipated, or guests who have confirmed their presence) 
    and / or 
  • The list of titles or topics of presentation 
    and/or
  • Description of the content of the video, film, capsule if appropriate

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated by a committee established by the QPHRN, according to the following criteria:

  • Quality of the program and speakers 
  • Priority will be given to events that will lead to: 1) a publication (conference proceedings, article, etc.) resulting from the event AND/OR 2) online publication of the event/video on the RRSPQ website or elsewhere (with acknowledgments to the Network), AND/OR 3) online publication of the abstract of all interventions and of the files of the presentations, video on the RRSPQ website or elsewhere (with acknowledgments to the Network).
  • Congruity with the mission and goals of the Network 
  • Interdisciplinary, interinstitutional and intersectoral aspects
  • Potential contribution to the development of research capacity 
  • Potential for sharing of knowledge and usefulness to a target audience
  • Potential for development of new collaborations and research projects or structuring effects 

Report 

Funded researchers must submit a scientific report describing the event and its impacts.

Commitments

  • The RRSPQ financial contribution must be explicitly mentioned 1) in all promotion material and final program, with the logo of the RRSPQ; 2) in all resulting publications or communications. The following acknowledgment is suggested:
    The organizers thank the Quebec Population Health Research Network (QPHRN-RRSPQ) for its contribution to the financing of this [choose appropriate: webinar, video, …]
  • Recipients of the financial support agree to publish the title and summary of their event on the QPHRN website once the results are announced.
  • Funded organizers may be invited to attend the QPHRN Annual Scientific Meeting.
